Soon Look and Enjoy

Soon the wildflowers will spring to life to brighten your visit to the mountains. Blossoms can occur as early as late March through until mid September.

There are three major vegetation zones that support a variety of wildflower species.

The first is the “Montane Zone” the low elevation which lies in the mountain valleys. Place’s like, Johnson Lake, the open grassy areas below Cascade Falls and along the Bow Valley Parkway.

The next zone is the broad band above the montane zone up to the last tree, called the “Subalpine Zone”. A good example is the many trails around Lake Louise, elevation 5,500 ft and up.

When you get above the treeline and into the land of rocks, you will find the hardiest of wildflowers. This is referred to the “Alpine Zone” and several of the classic areas to enjoy the landscape is “Sunshine Meadow”, “Parker Ridge” and the “Bow Summit”.
