Takakkaw Falls is a waterfall located in Yoho National Park at the end of Yoho Valley road, 17 kilometres north of Field, British Columbia, in Canada. You can drive to its toe but you will never make if you are pulling a trailer.

It is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the Canadian Rockies with an overall height of 380 m, making it the second-highest officially measured waterfall in western Canada. However its true “free-fall” is only 254 metres (833 ft) which is further than that of Niagara Falls.

“Takakkaw”, loosely translated from Cree, means something like “it is wonderful” and/or “it is magnificent”. The falls are fed by the Daly and Niles Glacier, which is part of the Waputik Icefield.

The glacier’s keeps the volume of the falls up during the warm summer months, and they are a tourist attraction, particularly in late spring after the heavy snow melts, when the falls are at peak condition. Can be a very busy place!

Some sources list a height of 1,650 feet as well, but this refers to the total change in elevation between the lake below the Daly Glacier and the Yoho River.

Takakkaw Falls boasts several unique features which set it apart in the world of waterfalls. First and foremost is the massive roostertail which is revealed during heavier flow periods.
