1 Corinthians 3:16-17

16 Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple”

In the book of 1 Corinthians, the apostle Paul addresses the church in Corinth and discusses various issues they have been facing. In these verses (1 Corinthians 3:16-17, Paul uses the metaphor of the church as the temple of God. He reminds the believers that through their faith in Christ, they have become the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. God’s presence within them sanctifies and sets them apart. Paul emphasizes the importance of treating the church with reverence and respect, stating that God’s temple, which is now His people, is holy. He warns that anyone who harms or divides the church will face God’s judgment. These verses serve as a reminder for Christians to honor the Holy Spirit within them, promote unity among believers, and protect the sanctity of the church as God’s dwelling place.
