2 Peter 3:7-10 (NIV)
7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. 8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.

In 2 Peter 3:7-10, Peter discusses the end of the world and the final judgment. He emphasizes that God operates on His own timing and shows patience so that everyone has an opportunity to turn to Him. Peter draws a parallel between the world’s destruction by water in Noah’s time and its future destruction by fire. He warns that the day of judgment will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. Peter encourages believers to live holy lives and eagerly anticipate God’s judgment. He reminds them that everything will be revealed and urges them to eagerly await the new heavens and new earth, where righteousness will prevail. These verses serve as a reminder of God’s plan for the world and the significance of anticipating Christ’s return and the final judgment.
