Proverbs 6:16-19 (NIV)
16 There are six things the Lord hates, 17 seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.”

In Proverbs 6:16-19, Solomon enumerates six things that the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him. These verses serve as a warning against certain behaviors and attitudes that are detestable in the eyes of God. Let’s explore each of these seven abominations:
- Haughty eyes: This refers to a proud and arrogant spirit, looking down on others with contempt and superiority.
- A lying tongue: God values honesty and truthfulness, so intentionally deceiving others with falsehood is condemned.
- Hands that shed innocent blood: Taking the life of an innocent person is a grave sin in the eyes of the Lord.
- A heart that devises wicked schemes: This speaks of a heart that plans and plots evil actions against others, demonstrating a lack of compassion and empathy.
- Feet that are quick to rush into evil: It highlights a person who eagerly engages in sinful activities without hesitation or consideration of the consequences.
- A false witness who speaks lies: Giving false testimony or spreading lies can cause significant harm and hinder justice.
- One who sows discord among brothers: This refers to a person who actively fosters division, conflict, and strife among friends, family, or any community.
These verses remind us of God’s standards and His desire for us to walk in righteousness, integrity, and love. By avoiding these abominable behaviors, we can live in harmony with God’s will and contribute to the betterment of our relationships and society as a whole.
