The New Identity

The core wisdom of this passage hinges on a deliberate, three-part process: actively stripping away the old self, renewing the mind, and putting on the new self. This commentary reflects on how our former way of living is deceptive, driven by destructive desires that steadily corrupt our character from within. Paul’s insight reveals that genuine change goes far deeper than outward behaviour modification; it requires a radical realignment of our core thoughts and attitudes with divine truth. Ultimately, this scripture offers the encouraging assurance that our new identity is uniquely recreated in God’s likeness, empowering every believer to practice and embody true righteousness, holiness, and spiritual maturity each day.

Ephesians 4:22–24
“To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”
